This notice explains what personal data Access Emerging Markets (“AEM”, “we”) collects through accessemergingmarkets.com, the AEM Intelligence Terminal and the AEM Events Center app, why we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the other data protection laws that apply where our users are, including those of Ghana, Kenya, South Africa and, for visitors in Europe, the GDPR.
We rely on your consent for optional sharing and for text or WhatsApp reminders, on our contract with you to deliver events and services you sign up for, and on our legitimate interest in running and improving a secure service.
Exhibitors only receive your name and email if you choose to share them. You decide at registration, and you can change it at any time under Privacy in the Events Center. If you don’t share, exhibitors see an anonymous visit.
When you contact an exhibitor directly (a request for quotation, a meeting request or an order), that exhibitor receives the details needed to reply to you.
We only send event reminders by text or WhatsApp if you ask for them when you register. Email confirmations and reminders for events you register for are part of the service. You can stop text and WhatsApp reminders at any time under Privacy, and every alert email has an unsubscribe link.
We use these providers to run the service. They process data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service.
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Sign-in and the database that stores accounts, registrations and booths |
| Vercel | Hosting the website and its server functions |
| Flutterwave | Taking card, mobile-money and bank payments |
| Resend | Sending email |
| Daily | Live video sessions |
| Microsoft Clarity | Understanding how the site is used |
| Meta (WhatsApp) | Messages you choose to exchange with us on WhatsApp |
Some of these providers store data outside your country, including in the European Union and the United States. Where data leaves your country, we rely on the safeguards the law requires, such as the provider’s contractual commitments.
We do not sell personal data.
We keep your account for as long as you use it. Event, booth and payment records are kept for as long as we need them to run events and meet legal, tax and accounting obligations, then deleted or anonymised. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
You can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, or object to or restrict how we use it. You can withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect anything done before you withdrew it.
To make a request, use Privacy in the Events Center or email contact@accessemergingmarkets.com. We may need to confirm your identity first.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to your data protection authority, for example the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Ghana’s Data Protection Commission, Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, South Africa’s Information Regulator, or the supervisory authority in your EU country.
Some AEM events, such as study-abroad summits, are open to students. If you are under 18, please register with the agreement of a parent or guardian, and do not share your details with exhibitors without their agreement.
Access to data is limited to the people and systems that need it, connections are encrypted, and payment details stay with our payment provider. No system is completely secure, so please tell us at once if you think your account has been misused.
We will update this page when our practices change and show the new date at the top. For significant changes we will tell registered users by email.
